Man United 4-2 Brighton (EPL)

Match Details.

Manchester United ended their poor run against Brighton with a 4-2 victory, having lost six of their previous seven league meetings with the Seagulls (W1). They’ve now won two of their last eight against them (L6)

Thanks to their 4-2 win against Brighton, following victories over Sunderland (2-0) and Liverpool (2-1), Manchester United have now won three consecutive Premier League games under Ruben Amorim for the first time. They last won three in a row in May/August 2024, and last did so within the same season in February that year (4).

Highlights.

MOTM: Cunha.

Man Utd’s Bryan Mbeumo has now been involved in eight Premier League goals against Brighton (5 goals, 3 assists), equalling his best return against any opponent in the competition (also 8 vs Southampton). Remarkably, all eight of those contributions have come in his last five starts against the Seagulls.

In Matheus Cunha and Casemiro, today’s match against Brighton is the first time Manchester United have ever had two different Brazilian goalscorers in a Premier League game.

Matheus Cunha has had more shots following a ball carry than any other player in the Premier League this season (12) and finally opened his account for Manchester United, scoring his first goal for the club.

James Milner has provided his first Premier League assist against Manchester United in 14 years and 2 days, since recording two in Man City’s 6-1 win in October 2011.

Brighton’s Danny Welbeck has now scored five goals in his last four Premier League games, more than he managed in his previous 15 (3). With braces against Chelsea and Newcastle in this run, this is only the third season in which he’s scored multiple goals in more than one game, after 2013-14 (2) and 2017-18 (2).

Since the start of last season, Matheus Cunha has scored more goals from outside the box than any other Premier League player in all competitions (7).

Manchester United have still NEVER lost a Premier League game at Old Trafford when they have been leading at halftime:

  • 327 games
  • 302 wins
  • 25 draws
  • 0 defeats

Danny Welbeck has scored six goals in the Premier League against Manchester United, the most a former player has netted against the Red Devils in the competition. Against no side has he scored more goals in his professional career than against Man Utd (7 in all comps).
