Crystal Palace have won their first ever major trophy. They are the first English club to win their first major title since Wigan Athletic in the 2012-13 FA Cup, who also beat Manchester City in the final that year.

Manchester City have now lost the FA Cup final in 2 consecutive seasons (2-1 against Manchester United last season) . Only once before have they lost consecutive appearances in major domestic finals (FA Cup/League Cup), losing the 1926 and 1933 FA Cup showpieces against Bolton and Everton respectively.

Nico O’Reilly (20 years, 57 days) is the youngest player to play in an FA Cup final for Manchester City since Matija Nastasic in 2013 (20y 44d), and youngest English player to do so since both Tommy Caton (18y 220d) and Steve MacKenzie (19y 172d) in the 1981 replay.

This win qualifies Crystal Palace for next season’s UEFA Europa League – it will be their first ever appearance in major European competition.

Dean Henderson is the first goalkeeper to save a penalty in an FA Cup final (excl. shootouts) since Petr Cech for Chelsea against Portsmouth in 2010.

Before today, Manchester City have won their last three FA Cup meetings with Crystal Palace by an aggregate score of 18-4. The most recent meeting was in the fourth round in 2016-17, with the Citizens winning 3-0 at Selhurst Park.

None of Man City’s last 45 games in the FA Cup have been drawn (W38 D6). Six of the Citizens’ seven defeats in that run have come at Wembley Stadium.
