The team starting the day top of the Premier League have been eliminated from the FA Cup on four occasions previously by a side from outside the top-flight – Leeds against Cardiff in 2001-02, Chelsea against Bradford in 2014-15, Man City against Wigan in 2017-18 and Plymouth against Liverpool tonight.

Plymouth Argyle defender Nikola Katic made 11 headed clearances today, the most by a player in a match against Liverpool since March 2020 (Stefan Savic for Atletico Madrid, 11).

Plymouth have reached the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2006-07. They have knocked two Premier League clubs out of the competition this season (Brentford and Liverpool), having only ever beaten top-flight opponents twice in their history beforehand (West Ham in 1961-62, West Brom in 1983-84).

Since the start of November, Plymouth have beaten as many Premier League clubs in all competitions (Brentford & Liverpool) as they have fellow Championship sides (Portsmouth & West Brom).

After losing none of their first 14 away games under Arne Slot in all competitions (W12 D2), Liverpool have since lost three of their last six on the road (W2 D1), with each defeat coming in a different competition (League Cup v Tottenham, Champions League v PSV, FA Cup v Plymouth).

Before today, Liverpool are unbeaten in their last eight games against Plymouth in all competitions (W5 D3) since suffering a 4-0 away defeat in February 1956 under manager Don Welsh.

Plymouth were the first side from outside of the Premier League to eliminate the team top of the top-flight since Wigan against Manchester City in February 2018. It was the first time Liverpool were knocked out of the competition by a lower league opponent while leading the table since January 1984 against Brighton.
